Arturo García Bustos at the Museum of Printing History
he Museum of Printing History is pleased to present Arturo García Bustos: La Imagen del México Postrevolucionario.
OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday, January 24, 2013, 6-8 P.M. at Museum of Printing History. Organized by the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas, the exhibition consists of 44 works by Mexican revolutionary artist Arturo García Bustos. Drawn primarily from the collection of the Museo Nacional de la Estampa in Mexico City, Mexico, the exhibition presents Bustos artistic oeuvre of protest artworks and printmaking experimentations in lithography, woodcut, and linoleum.
Arturo García Bustos is one of México’s renowned artists and master printmakers. Born in 1926 in Mexico City, he quickly developed his artistic talents entering into the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas at the age of 15. Later, in 1942 he developed working relationships with professors Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Agustín Lazo, and Alfredo Zalce at the Escuela de Pintura y Escultura de La Esmeralda. Bustos continued to be part of the 20th-century Mexican avant-garde as a founder of the Artistas Jóvenes Revolucionarios — an artistic collective with the principal objective of painting and promoting protest art — and as a member of the artist-run collective Taller de la Grafica Popular (TGP, People’s Graphic Workshop). Provocative prints commenting on social and political injustices around the world are the highlights of Bustos’ oeuvre and will be featured in the exhibition at the Museum of Printing History.
