Both La Madeleine locations are always busy, and for good reason. The coffee is incredible, the food, while French, retains some healthy aspects and is comforting and decadent without any trace of grease. Another dark horse for breakfast in the city is Ruchi’s. Better known as a late-night spot for a bite after the bars have closed, this place actually has some great food. The staff is quick and attentive, the portions are large, and best of all, you can eat whenever you please. Come in at 4 or 5am if that’s what your schedule is like, and you’ll be sure to get good food and service.

This New York style delicatessen and restaurant has been a Houston hit pretty much since their opening in 1999. Huge portions and courteous staff don’t hurt, and their breakfast is to die for. The menu is so extensive it’s hard to know what to get, but when in doubt, order the potato pancakes and fresh-squeezed orange juice. You won’t be sorry.

Several intown locations make this Cuban/ Mexican taqueria convenient, but don’t be fooled by the drive-thru or fast food efficiency. Almost all of the menu is outstanding and ready in minutes. As for breakfast tacos, it’s hard to find better. If you’re not in the mood for coffee, try the fresh-squeezed lemonade, also top notch.

This Montrose hotspot is known for its fresh and delicious Sunday brunch, but the weekly breakfast menu is excellent as well. From Irish Oatmeal to Italian Toast to English Muffins and Italian-style hot cereal, this place really runs the gamut. The atmosphere is refreshing patio-style and the egg white frittatas are not to be missed.
