Annual Art on the Avenue Fundraiser to Feature

275 Local Artists

WHO: Avenue CDC and 16th Annual Art on the Avenue

WHAT: A project of Avenue CDC and its biggest fundraiser, Art on the Avenue, features the work of 275 Texas artists, who graciously donate a portion of silent auction proceeds from their work back to the nonprofit organization.

 

WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, November 8, 6 pm to 9 pm – first chance to view and purchase art!

Preview Party – $100 – includes admission to Saturday night event

(Admission is limited to 300 people and is expected to sell out!)

WHAT’S NEW: New this year is a Digital Quilt, to be created by graphic design artist, William Miller, who will work in the gallery both nights of the event to create the piece out of photographs emailed to him by guests attending the event. The image of his work in progress will be projected onto one of the gallery walls, and attendees can purchase prints of the final product during the auction, which will be mailed after the event.

WHAT ELSE:     Avenue CDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving Houston’s Washington Avenue and Near Northside communities by developing affordable housing and economic opportunities, while preserving the area’s economic, cultural, and historical diversity. In the last 20 years, Avenue CDC has helped revitalize the community by leveraging more than $60 million in investments, including the development of 105 single-family homes, 599 rental units and 140,000 square feet of commercial space. Avenue CDC provides homebuyer education and counseling services to more than 600 families each year, and its programs created 759 jobs between 2007 and 2011. In 2011, the organization assisted 75 families in purchasing a home through homeownership counseling, down payment, closing cost or financing assistance; provided 490 families with pre-purchase housing education and counseling; provided 184 families with foreclosure prevention counseling; developed 48 apartment homes for very low income seniors; developed 144 apartment homes for low and moderate-income families; and provided supportive services to residents of 490 apartments in six complexes, including after-school educational and recreational programs.
