The Menil Drawing Institute’s 2022 Research Fellow, Anna Lovatt, delivers a lecture that explores the relationships between drawing, television, and video in art of the 1950s to the 1980s.
Artist Talk: Marcia Kure
Saturday, April 9, 4–6 p.m., Menil Drawing Institute
Artist Marcia Kure will join Assistant Curator Kelly Montana for a conversation held in conjunction with the display of her monumental wall drawing NETWORK, 2021. Kure will share insight into the process of creating this new work, as well as discuss her multidisciplinary practice, which explores a wide range of concepts, including colonial legacies and diasporic identities. After the talk, enjoy live music by Heaven Mozart. West African food from Dibi Rapide will be available for purchase.

In Conversation: Esther Adler and Anthony Pinn on the Spiritual Landscapes of Joseph E. Yoakum
Wednesday, April 27, 7–8 p.m., Menil Drawing Institute
Join Esther Adler, Curator of Drawings and Prints at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Anthony Pinn, Agnes Cullen Arnold Distinguished Professor of Humanities at Rice University, for a conversation focusing on spirituality in the work of Joseph E. Yoakum. Pinn and Adler explore the connections to Christian Science in Yoakum’s work, as well as consider the roles that church and faith have historically played in African American communities.
Neighborhood Community Day

Enjoy an afternoon of art, music, poetry, and family activities in celebration of the museum’s vibrant neighborhood. Participating organizations include: DACAMERA, Houston Center for Photography, Pride Chorus Houston, Inprint, The Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel, Writers in the Schools (WITS), and Watercolor Art Society.
