Archway Gallery announced the winners of its 14th Annual Juried Exhibition Saturday, July 9 with remarks by Juror Rosa Ana Orlando and an in-person all day opening highlighting the works of 43 local artists. This was another record for the gallery with 166 artists submitting 319 pieces of art. The exhibition benefits Scenic Galveston, Inc., which will receive 50% of the sales from this exhibition and the remaining 50% to the artists. First, Second, and Third place winners each received a cash prize, and the first-place winner, Ashkan Roayaee, will also enjoy guest artist privileges for the month of August. Five Honorable Mentions were also announced.
Selected juror, Rosa Ana Orlando, a museum specialist with extensive knowledge of art history has broad experience in art collection management, as well as exhibition planning and design. She is also an independent art curator consultant and educator. Orlando has taught art appreciation at the college level, and has been a docent at art, history, and children’s museums as well as mentoring emerging artists and museum professionals.
Orlando selected a total of 50 pieces for the Juried Exhibition saying, “I am positively impressed by the quality and originality of the artworks. It was not an easy task to choose only fifty works among so many wonderful pieces. The show includes a variety of formats, materials, and techniques featuring a diversity of artistic languages and styles, organized in three main sections including figurative works, abstract pieces, and the third section which incorporates both. I truly believe in the power of art to connect us as humans, as it transcends cultural and generational barriers. I am thankful for the opportunity to engage with the thought-provoking and compelling works included in this exhibition,” remarked Orlando during the awards presentation.
