More than 1,700 guests gathered at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate The Brookwood Community’s 40th anniversary of providing purpose for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Brookwood Community’s poignant celebration was a testament to the place that it is – a purpose-filled, joyful haven of inclusivity, empowerment, and beauty.

Coined “An Evening at the Theater,” the night kicked off with a reception featuring cocktails, light bites, and a red carpet entrance to introduce the Citizens. As the beautiful crowd made their way inside, they were greeted by Honorary Chair Scott McClelland, who served as Emcee for the night, and Film Directors Ariel and Andrew Levy of Chispa House, who hosted the night. Attendees had the unique opportunity to watch the premiere of Chispa House’s documentary film “Finding Purpose: The Brookwood Story.” Perfectly capturing the magic of The Brookwood Community, the moving film highlights the amazing story of Brookwood as told by the Citizens who live and work there. In addition, one former “student” of Yvonne Streit, who is now a prominent actor in Hollywood, made a cameo appearance in the film, expressing his gratitude to her for saving his life.
