Base64 imageWhile some have called Los Angeles the City of Dreams, for Anna Reger, Houston is where a hard-fought dream can come true.

It was in Bayou City that a child of poverty pulled herself up to become one of the nation’s leading entrepreneurs. “It doesn’t matter where you start; it’s all about where you end,” says Anna Reger, a mother of six who put herself through Houston Community College and the University of Houston with an interdisciplinary degree in business and entrepreneurship. The petite dynamo is an inspiration for women who may feel trapped by hardship.

Anna, the oldest of seven children, was born and raised in one of Houston’s most underserved neighborhoods. After her father lost his sight to a rare illness and couldn’t work, her mother worked multiple jobs. As a teen, Anna left school in the 8th grade and worked at a foster home caring for children with disabilities. After multiple tragic car accidents left her seriously injured and on the verge of death, Anna underwent numerous surgeries. Despite these seemingly insurmountable challenges, Anna persevered. These experiences grounded her with a conviction to bring reassurance to children in these uncertain times and a heart committed to helping others.

Anna founded of Flip Lok, along with her husband, John Reger, the inventor. Flip Lok is a safety device that started as a way to protect children in case of a shooting, or threat of a shooting at school. Today, Flip Lok goes far beyond the classroom to protect people in their homes, dorms, offices, or We Workspaces. “Everyone deserves to know their loved ones are safe, everywhere,” Reger says.

“Our children are in danger, between 2018 – 2019, active threat events increased four-fold,” she says. “Children are scared and parents feel powerless, but they don’t have to be. There’s been a lot of talk at the federal level about making changes, so this is a way to hit the ground running to at least give children a fighting chance when a threat is imminent.”
