Rice Village Restaurant Staple Prego Announces Location Change

Rice Village restaurant staple, Prego, announced this week that it is moving locations in the Summer of 2024. Rice University currently owns the land that the Italian favorite resides on and is planning to develop the building for university needs.

Prego in the 90s

“After 40 years in the village, it was hard to imagine relocating to anywhere else in Houston. We are pleased we were able to work with the university and we won’t be going far,” says Prego’s General Manager and Operating Partner, David Cook. “Our new location is only 100 yards away at 5515 Kelvin Dr., Suite # 130 and we are thrilled that we will continue to be a part of this community. Our roots here are deep and this is where our customers look for us to be.”

In order to honor its history in its original space before they head down the block, Prego is asking its customers to share stories of their experiences at their establishment over the last four decades. If you have any photos or memories to share, please sent them to pregodavid@yahoo.com for the potential to be highlighted on their social media pages.

“We are excited to start this next chapter, but also know that restaurants with rich Houston history like ours are becoming scarce, especially after the hard road the hospitality industry has been on the past few years. We know that our successes and longevity are due to our loyal regular customers. They inspire us to continue to provide a place where families and friends can gather to relax, share a meal, and be there for one another. Our commitment to quality, comfort, reliability, and hospitality has never been stronger.”
