As they say, laughter is the best medicine, nothing was truer than this year’s 12th Annual Stand Up for Cancer Gala benefiting The Broach Foundation. Leading the helm of this year’s gala were Jamie Broach Bryd and Jeff Bryd and their children. Comedian David Spade known for his sharp wit and humor, was the headliner for this year’s gala. He kept the audience roaring all night long. The setting at River Oaks Country Club was especially elegant with colors of blue and teal hues designed by Studio Megan Davis, complemented by silver Chiavari chairs and white hydrangeas centerpieces. The well- heeled crowd of more than 450 revelers packed the Ballroom at River Oaks Country Club. Mistress of Ceremonies was Ilona Carson. Guests were treated to a VIP cocktail hour, dinner and comedy show.

It’s was heartwarming to see so many attendees gathered in one room to support such a worthy cause. Guests in the crowd laughing the night away were Jamie and Jeff Byrd, Barbara and Rod Broach, Susan and Barrett Reasoner, Rainey and Tom Richardson, Meg Bres, Kate Bres, Jan Bres, Chuck Yates and Laura Haynes, Lee Majors, Lindsey and Trey Black, Gordy and Ann Paez, Harrison, Oliver and Parker Broach, Cory and David LeNorman, Dina and Ryan Taaffe, Dr. Fred Lang and Gildy Lang, Barrett and Julie Webster.

The Broach Foundation was established in honor of James Broach, who in 2011, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. This came just ten months after his previous diagnosis of a grade II astrocytoma during a surgery on October 12, 2010. He endured countless surgeries, radiation, chemo treatments and experimental trials. Despite the difficult treatments and the cancer growing in his brain, James knew he wanted to make an impactful difference in the fight to cure brain cancer. Along with his wife, Jamie, he decided to actively join the effort of pursuing a cure for this extraordinarily challenging and under-funded disease. The Broaches, along with the Executive Board, consequently established The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research to raise funds and awareness for the benefit of adult brain cancer research. To date, The Foundation has raised over $6 million dollars.

James lost his battle against brain cancer on August 26, 2013, but the impact his life will have on those who continue to fight this disease lives on through the cutting edge research the foundation funds. “James was truly an inspiration to all those who knew him. Though he knew the research would not come in time to help him, he wanted to find a way to help others. Research requires resources, and he knew the faster we can fund promising novel research projects, the faster we will find a cure for this disease,” Jamie Broach Byrd says. For more information, please contact Deanna Kotrla at info@thebroachfoundation.org or visit www.thebroachfoundation.org
