American Heart Association (AHA), the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, America’s number one and number five killers.
The American Heart Association (AHA) Greater Houston invited select guests to attend the 7th Annual Go Red for Women Fashion Show. As a cornerstone of AHA, the Go Red for Women initiative seeks to raise critical awareness of women’s top health threat and to ensure that all women understand the risks and feel empowered to take charge of their health.
Attendees arrived at Elizabeth Anthony in Uptown Park where they enjoyed cocktails and hors d/oeuvres, mingled and perused silent auction items courtesy of Jason Wu and Leigh Maxwell Jewelry, before being seated for the show. Mel Edwards, Senior Vice President of the Greater Houston American Heart Association, opened the evening with a heartfelt thanks to the event’s host and owner of Elizabeth Anthony, Julie Roberts, and shared inspiring words about the purpose of the event and the mission of AHA.
Guests also heard from Houston’s Go Red for Women Chair Erin Asprec, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Memorial Hermann Health System, who thanked the event’s generous sponsors and elaborated on the importance of AHA’s lifechanging work as a woman with a congenital heart defect.
Tamyra Wells, the Circle of Red Signature Sponsor and the Regional Vice President of Encompass Health, followed with remarks discussing the importance of joining the Circle of Red and recognizing the American Heart Association’s current Circle of Red members.
The fashion show featured models donning Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection and accessorized by stunning jewelry from Leigh Maxwell Jewelry.
In addition, familiar faces hit the runway including Jenna Beth Bayer and her sister Katherine Whaley, who was nominated as a Women of Impact in 2021 and chaired the 2022 Shop With Heart Card.
Models also included Ursaline Hamilton, currently serving on the Board for the Children’s Assessment Center; Dr. Ruth Bush, the founding Associate Dean of Medical Education at the UH College of Medicine and current Associate Dean, Educational Affairs and Professor of Surgery at UTMB Galveston; Jordan Seff, former board member of The Children’s Assessment Center and a 2023 Woman of Distinction, ShelaghMichael Brown, the current Chairman of CanCare, and daughter Sarah Cyphers; and Kristina Somerville, who serves on the Board of Directors for Houston Children’s Charity, Memorial Hermann Foundation, Performing Arts Houston, Theater Under the Stars and The Heritage Society.
